Well I think my windscreen washer pump has given up the ghost.

Might get under the bottle this weekend to check out out.

Whats the replacement part I should be looking for over here?

Silly question I know - but what is the best way to get at the pump? (and where is it?!)

Thanks!

Front drivers side. You drop the housing for the resevoir down then the pump is attached to this resevoir

How many (rusty) screws? and where are they? I can see 2 on the very bottom of the housing I think.

i think there are 4 you have to take the bonnet off, l/h fender, headlights , wheel, anti roll bar, sidelights front facia, not really but some jobs are a bit like that TT

The motor is number 10 and the housing number 8 on this. I can only see 2 sides of mine without jacking up the car. There is an "X" shape on the bottom of the housing if that helps.

Due to running out of time, I had to entrust this job to the local garage as part of the MOT process. They are having problems getting in the housing - saying that there are 6 bolts, going into rivets or something? And something about have to hack 'em off to get them out? Does this sound right?

Its a delorean of course its a bastard. If it can go wrong it will.

It sounds like the rivets are turning in the fiber glass body. You cant get behind them so only way is to drill or cut the bolts off, drill out the rivets and put new rivnuts in.

Thanks Dan - that confirms it - exactly the conclusion we came to!

Yep, the washer pump is a pain to remove.
It's worth using some copper slip on the bolt threads that hold the cover on when putting it back together. That stops them rusting up in the rivetnuts.
I have had 3 washer pumps in 9 years. Lack of use and the pumps seize up.

Why not fit an in-line washer pump in a more convinient location?

These usually die because they get submerged in water when the farty little holes in the washer bottle cover get bunged up (which doesn't take much)

The trick is to drill some nice big holes in each corner of the cover before refitting it...

Exactly what happened to mine too.... ended up having to kinda yank it out.

Where can I get these rivnuts?
