Hi Guys,
Just been working on the car and noticed a sticky sap like resin coming from inside the alternator?
Looks like a freeze frame single drip on the underside of the casing.
Alternator runs and charges fine, I presume its a winding coating breaking down from age?
Any clues?

PS. Its a Motorola 90A unit (Original)
And yes I know I could up rate it, but I'm curious if anyone else has this resin leak.

Nothing to worry about.
It's the potting compound from inside the regulator on the back of the alternator. The heat from the exhaust manifold gets it hot and it leaks out.
For a few quid, you can replace the compound if you really want to.

Not used to these "Modern" electrics, more used to Magneto's and Dynamo's from the 1920's & 30's :lol: No resin compund there, just varnish and cotton wrap insulation
