battey light or engine - dmcdj - 25 Nov 2006

after phone nick t today on the way back from sunny bristol ( not )
my battery indcator went from 13 volts down but there was nothink on to over load the circuts but then the engine would not drop below 3ooo revs when i got to the traffic lights but a couple of times reving the throttle it went back to noraml tick over any idaes nick or the gang i know i might need a new cable but do you think this is the fault ??????? :?

throttle needs adjusting. Voltage gauge not relaiable, keep an eye on the battery light, possibly change batt light bulb

Check basics first, it might just be the cable or the throttle spool or that is sticking.
Get a friend to slowly press on the accelerator pedal and then look at the movement for smooth operation. Ensure that the throttle closes fully and the microswitch closest to the ventury is operated when your foot is off the accelerator.

As far as the warning light is concerned, check that your belt isn't slipping and that the electrical connections on the back of the starter are OK, the engine earth strap is OK and your battery is good in the first place (, use a hydrometer to check electrolite specific gravity or get it voltage drop tested).

Enjoy

NickT.

and what about the cold starts this morning it took well over 30 min to start him ( but it was like ice out there ) but as soon as i moved it a little in gear went fired first time

what you reackon :?

I reckon that's a red herring. Glen, the car needs looking at mate. Doesn't matter how cold, it should start on the button. It may be somethign really simple but if you've managed to crank it for nearly half an hour, then there be nowt wrong with your battery or grounds!
