Saw this over on DMCTalk, I have not seen it in the UK advertised as yet:

Will no doubt work out very expensive but do I need/want it??????????
Chris
Its very tempting…..final cost?
Looks very nice!

Although I'm mostly always tempted by these "build piece by piece over a long time" models you see advertised on the TV. I've never plumped for any of them, because the number of pieces normally amounts to an end overall cost in the high hundreds (£700-900 region). I'm sure this would be no different.

But because of the nature of the theme for this particular model, I could make an exception....if it came out here.

Judging by the prices, it looks like a UK/Europe based project. In fact you guys get free shipping where I over in America would have to pay some serious shipping.

I do wonder at about 50 dollars per month, how many months do I need to have a complete model? Is this a year subscription? More?

Being a professional scale modeler, I would rather just have all the parts at once, then build it correctly. In tis scale, there is TONS of room for improvement, TONS.

Also, did they really need to put headlight eyebrows in the model?

Here are a few pics of some of my past scale projects:

Yes and they also went with the 'pre-aged' look with the header tank! Whats wrong with nice white plastic?

I don't think i'll bother, my skills are pretty minimal for this small detailed type of work. I tend towards the Clarkson type of work……. pass the BIG HAMMER please!!
Nowhere at all does it tell you how many parts are in the kit. So you really have no idea how many years it could take you to complete the thing, or how much money it will cost you.

This is the particular statement I enjoyed reading, which in itself pretty much makes me steer clear of these things. (Basically you could end up with a bunch of useless parts, equalling an incomplete model and never finish it if they decide it's not worth their time having the parts manufactured due to low numbers) Great eh.
One guy here seems to think he's seen "100 issues" quoted somewhere.

So as I said, if that's true, then it's a £793 model in just under 2yrs.

Looks very nice with its working lights Smile
I did notice the eyebrows (obviously read over from their specimen car) but good spot on the yellow header tanks too Chris!

Yep, £800 would a long way towards maintaining my 1:1 scale working model!!!

I think that is misleading.

As I read it, part of the weekly mag has the instructions for that weeks part/area of the car, and another part is on the history of BTTF. It is this history that is spread over 100 pages, but how many pages per issue is never mentioned. So it could be a page a week, 4 pages a week, who knows.

A promotional binder holds 16 issues, but is that the full set? How many binders do you need?
Actually, googling around and 100 issues is probably about right.

their DB5 model cost around £700 a few years ago, and this guy is on issue 86 with his alpine - still missing bonnet, boot and headlights, nevermind all the BTTF gubbins

Doesn't seem right……...they suck you in and you just have to keep going, otherwise all you have spent …..is wasted.

I'll definitely not bother……..'Part works'….you can stick em!
You see loads of adverts on telly for DeAgostini part works,
they are in Asda (other supermarkets and retailers are available)
for the first few issues, then it goes to subscription only.

£800 would go a long way towards getting my frame repaired, a
more worthwhile investment IMHO.......
