Despite my failures with the rear lights, I have succeeded with my door markers.
I used the following linked EBay items with golden amber and red theatre filter (I had to double up with the amber filter) since these only come in white and this needs defusing a bit otherwise they look a bit washed out even with the lens.
I think it's been pretty successful.
