Hi all,

I'm posting this in the electrical section just to match where this appears in the workshop manual (3-6-1 Windshield Wipers/Washers). Hoping someone can help with a question about the fasteners for the washer bottle canopy, part number 15 on this diagram:

I was wondering at what stage during production the factory changed these fasteners from white nylon captive nuts...

...to the aluminium rivnuts currently sold by DMC.

I've since been told that DMC used the aluminium rivnuts on both early and late cars.

Has anyone on here removed their washer bottle canopy? If so, what type of fasteners does your car have?
Just re-fitted mine and it has the metal riv-nuts!

Thanks chaps, much appreciated. Any more for any more?

If these nylon captive nuts were not a standard fastener then perhaps they are a Wooler-Hodec fastener since the washer/wiper setup on the car was modified to suit the RHD layout.

They're certainly pretty high up on the list of 'things which will seize up and spin and spin and spin...'
With Rivnuts I dont think it makes much difference if there plastic or metal! they all spin around

Chris
crunch them out and replace with jack nuts. And user copper grease!
Aluminium ones on mine (6126), and they turn forever as well...
Thanks Rich; it's definitely looking like mine is the odd one out here.

In the interests of originality (well, for this car anyway), I've sourced a quantity of correct white nylon captive nuts ready for re-fitting...with plenty of copper grease.

Cheers,

Phil
